Victoria Amazonica queen of water lilies

According to Lara Jewitt, Kew’s Science Collections Coordinator, in summertime the leaves of the Amazonica have grown to 10ft across and it’s fragrant flowers which open in the evening have a smell of pineapple. They also heat up which invites a beetle to come and pollinate the plant. The flower closes around the beetle then once it’s pollinated on the second night the flower opens again
